Information on the Folding Stock That Came With a Savage 10FP
Choate, a third-party manufacturer of firearms accessories, is the only company that makes a folding stock for the Savage Arms 10FP .308-caliber rifle. Folding stocks have a hinge that allows the user to fold the rifle butt to the side, making the weapon easier to transport. Choate makes its stocks of a synthetic material.

Types
-
Choate makes two folding stocks for the Savage rifle--the Savage Short Action Sniper Folder and the Law Enforcement (LE) Series Choate Folding Stock. The second is available only through the purchase of a new Savage rifle and not for aftermarket installation.
Identification
-
The two stocks differ in appearance. The Short Action Sniper Folder has an olive-drab hand guard and pistol grip, while the law enforcement version is matte black. The LE Series has swivel studs on both sides of the rifle for attaching a sling. Both stocks have a cheek rest for the shooter.
-
Accessories
-
The LE Series features an accessory rail for mounting a "bi-pod," or small legs that help stabilize the rifle for shooting in a prone position. The shooter could also attach a tactical flashlight or laser. The Short Action Sniper Folder has no swivel, rail, or other device for the use of a bi-pod.
Benefits
-
The Choate folding stock for the Savage 10FP rifle offers greater portability than the standard fixed stock. At 3.5lbs, the Savage Short Action Sniper Folder is half the weight of Choate's "Ultimate Sniper Stock," a consideration for users who need to carry the weapon long distances. Both decrease the rifle's overall length about 10 inches, making its folded length about 30 inches.
Both stocks "free-float" the barrel, which may increase the rifle's accuracy. As it is fired, the barrel heats and expands. When "floated," the barrel is independent from the stock so barrel expansion doesn't affect later shots.
