Large Pink-and-White Flowers With Large Leaves That Bloom in the Fall

During the fall, gardeners ready plants for winter and prepare for spring, but this is also the time for fall-blooming flowers to flourish. Large white-and-pink fall-blooming flowers add a touch of elegance to autumn gardens.

Examples

Some examples of this type of flower are colchicums (Colchicum spp.), dahlia (Dahlia) and stargazer lilies (Lilium "Stargazer"). Colchicums are corm plants indigenous to Europe and Africa. Dahlias originated in Mexico. Stargazer lilies are oriental hybrid lilies created by floral breeder Leslie Woodriff of California.

Descriptions

Colchicums develop leaves 10 to 15 inches long and 3 to 4 inches wide. Once fall arrives, the leaves die and the plant blossoms with large, showy pink-and-white flowers. Dahlias grow leaves 10 inches long with toothed edges. The flowers are 2 to 3 inches in diameter with multiple white-and-pink petals. Stargazer lilies have narrow, long, belt-like leaves and large, stunning white-and-pink to crimson flowers comprising 6 petals.

Growing Needs

Colchicums require well-draining soil with full sun to partial shade to thrive. Dahlias have a moderate to fast growth rate and like moist, well-draining soil with full sun. Stargazer lilies need full sunlight and well-draining soil enriched with organic matter.
