Difference in a Century Welder GL and GS
Lincoln Electric manufactures the Century line of welding machines. GS and GL are models in the Century line that provide many wire feed options for various welding jobs. They are capable of metal inert gas soldering of thin sheet metal and thick structural pieces.

Specifications
-
Century GL welders and one GS wire feed welder have single phase 120 volt, 60 hertz primary inputs. Input plugs operate at 15 amperes and the welding range is 30 to 100 amperes. Century GS welders have single phase 230 volt, 60 hertz primary inputs. Input plugs operate at 50 amperes and the welding range is 20 to 270 amperes.
Wire Thickness
-
Century's GL models are capable of welding 18 gauge steel sheet metal from 1/8 to 3/16 inch in thickness. Century's GS models have a broader welding range capable of soldering 24 gauge steel sheet metal up to 1/2, 3/8 and 3/16 inch in thickness. GS models are available for 26 gauge sheet metal up to 1/4 inch in thickness.
-
Practical Application
-
Because GS welders are compatible with thin 24 gauge steel, they are ideal for the welding of automobile body parts and duct work. GL welders solder thicker 18 gauge sheet metal making them useful for heavy duty projects like erecting garages and repairing trailers and farm equipment.
