What Size Tires Should Be on My Camper?

Tires come in many sizes. One size will be perfect for your camper.

Whether your camper is a tiny, pop-up trailer or a full-size motor home built on a commercial bus frame, the tires you put on it ensure safe, trouble-free travel to your next camping destination.

Manufacturer's Recommendation

All campers come from the manufacturer with tires, suitably sized for normal use. In most cases, going with the manufacturer's recommendation will serve you just fine. If you plan to use the camper in unusual situations, such as off-road, on back roads or in other extreme environments, upgrading to bigger or tougher tires may be in order.

Weight Ranges

Tires are available in many weight ranges, identified alphabetically. A load range D or E tire safely supports more vehicle or trailer weight than load range B or C tires. If you load your camper with more than the normal amount of gear, consider moving up to higher weight range tires.

Larger Diameter

Larger diameter tires will pull easier, provide a smoother ride and extend wheel bearing life. If you plan to travel extreme distances with your camper, think about installing larger diameter tires. Most campers have enough tire clearance to allow bumping up a size or two with no modifications.
