Antenna Rotator Problems

Weather can cause some antenna rotator problems.

As with any electronic machine that has moving parts, various problems are bound to develop sooner or later with an outdoor antenna rotator. Some potential sources of these problems include wind, electrical surges and normal use over a long period of time.

Wind

Strong wind may turn the antenna and cause TV stations to lose their normal positions on the rotator dial. To regain the normal dial positions, it's necessary to move the antenna manually.

Surges

Power surges and lightning can cause serious problems with the rotator. Always detach and unplug the rotation controller when thunderstorms occur and consider using a surge protector for extra safety.

Motor

Any motor that regularly moves a heavy object will eventually wear out. The documentation for one Archerotor model indicates that signs of a failing motor include electrical odors, improper movement or inability to turn the antenna.
