Ubuntu Memory Manager & Defragmentation

Ubuntu is an operating system based on Linux, an open-source operating system and kernel. Ubuntu performs fundamental computer operations, such as distributing the file system physically on the hard drive.

  1. Defragmentation

    • A computer that uses Ubuntu does not need a defragmentation program. Linux, which is the foundation of Ubuntu, automatically organizes data by storing files in spaces that are big enough to hold them, rather than splitting them up, or fragmenting them.

    Memory Manager

    • Memory management is the efficiency at which data can be accessed. Ubuntu actively moves data into a quickly retrievable space called random-access memory (RAM) even when that data is not being called on.

    Benefits

    • Not having to defragment a hard drive gets rid of an operation that takes up time and stops other processes from running. Ubuntu's method of managing memory improves the computer's performance because it optimizes the use of high-speed data retrieval while minimizing the use of lower-speed data retrieval.
