Can You Use Lube on Car Lug Nuts & Wheel Studs?

Wheel lugs are the nuts that hold a vehicle's wheels to the hub. The lug nuts thread onto the wheels studs, which are the threaded studs that are fastened to the bolts.

Anti-Seize

Over time, the nuts and bolts that are used on vehicles can become seized on, particularly if they are exposed to dirt, oils and moisture. If this happens, they can become extremely difficult to remove. A lubricant known as anti-seize is often used on nuts and bolts to prevent the threads from becoming seized and ensuring that the hardware in question can be loosened and removed easily when needed.

Lug Nut Lube

Anti-seize can be used on wheel lug nuts as well. This can be particularly useful on wheels, which are exposed to constant dirt and moisture. As long as the wheel's lug nuts are torqued to the proper settings and checked periodically, this can be a good way to ensure that the lug nuts do not become seized.

Application Of Anti-Seize

Anti-seize lubricant usually comes in a small container. A small amount of the material is wiped onto the threads of the cleaned wheel studs. There is no need to use an excessive amount. The wheels are then installed and the lugs threaded on and tightened.
