A Sierra Compass Wireless Aircard is a wireless modem that allows access to the Internet through a cellular service provider. It can connect to the Internet when the user is somewhere the cellular service exists. Wherever the cell phone works, the wireless modem also works.

  1. Communication Protocol

    • The wireless aircard uses high-speed packet access, which is a packet-based mobile telephone protocol used for 3G networks. The download speeds on 3G networks are up to five times faster than previous mobile telephone protocols.

    Memory/Speed

    • Compass aircards come with a microSD memory expansion slot for additional data storage. They process Internet data transfers at speeds from 1 megabit per second (Mbps) up to 7.2 Mbps, and are compatible with worldwide mobile broadband networks.

    Service Providers

    • Aircards connect to any desktop or laptop with an universal serial bus (USB) port making it a portable device. Different aircards work with different cell phone providers. The Internet access area depends on the cell phone service's coverage area. The cell phone service provider can provide information on which aircard to use with their service.
