Fugitive Emission Factor for Firefighter Training
Fugitive emission factors are calculated during firefighting training to estimate hazardous materials that might be emitted during training fires. Emissions are calculated to judge the amount of potentially emitted pollutants.
-
Fugitive
-
Fugitive emissions are those that cannot reasonably be vented or exhausted through the structure of a building. Fugitive emissions must be calculated prior to training exercises if the emissions are classed as hazardous air pollutants.
Firefighting
-
Training for firefighters consists of the use of propane, diesel, gasoline and jet fuel to create fires for training reasons. Fugitive emissions are calculated because of the release of dangerous chemicals including nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxides.
-
Calculations
-
The potential emissions from a firefighting training exercise are calculated by dividing the weight of the pollutant by the weight, volume or duration of the firefighting exercise.
