The Satellite Dish LNB Specifications

Many parts contribute to satellite dish functioning.

Satellite dishes offer consumers a vast amount of television channels through a relatively simple-looking device. But, these dishes use an intricate system of parts, such as a low block noise, or LNB, to bring the signal into the home for viewing.

Identification

LNB converters are the protrusions from the middle of the satellite dish that actively receive and amplify the incoming satellite signal. In fact, the incredibly weak signal is amplified about 1,000 times.

Features

As the satellite signals reach the satellite dish, the frequencies can vary from 4 to 21 GHz. As they run through the LNB, the frequencies are filtered to obtain the specific needed frequencies and subsequently amplified. The frequencies are then converted to a more coaxial cable-friendly range, between 950 and 2,150 MHz, where they produce a picture and audio on the television.

Considerations

Though the LNB functions to create a clear signal for the viewer, the satellite dish still needs proper alignment to the satellite signal. If the dish is not set correctly, the best LNB on the market will not combat a poor overall input signal.
