ATI Driver Update Problems

ATI is a series of computer graphics cards manufactured by AMD and designed to significantly improve the computer display quality. If you are having problems updating your ATI device driver, troubleshooting the problem may help. Failure to update drivers may cause problems with your graphics card's operation.

  1. Administrator Access

    • Before you can download updates for your ATI device driver, you have to be logged into your computer as Administrator and not as Guest. Click Start, then click the Right Arrow beside the Shut Down button. Select Log Off, then log in as an administrator by typing the username and password.

    Internet Connections

    • If the computer fails to download the updates for your ATI device driver, there may be a problem with your Internet connection. Troubleshoot the Internet connection problem first, then try updating the driver again. Alternatively, you can use the installation disc that came with the graphics card to manually update the driver, but this may be outdated.

    Updating ATIs

    • To update the ATI device driver, you must first check online to determine if there are updates available for the device. To do this, type "device manager" in the Search box and select Device Manager from the list that appears. In the Device Manager window, click the arrow beside Display Adapters, right-click your ATI graphics card, then select Update Driver Software. You will be notified if there is any update available for your device.
