TV Antenna Testing Comparison

TV Antenna Testing Comparison thumbnail
There are many TV antennas available in the marketplace.

The advent of cable and satellite television has taken the place of the common TV antenna. But antennas are still widely used, requiring testing to verify the best use and placement for optimum viewing.

  1. Types

    • TV antennas come in a variety of sizes. They can be strictly indoor antennas sitting on top of the television, outdoor antennas attached to the roof or even high definition television antennas that are placed inside.

    Features

    • Each individual home has varying parameters for testing antennas. For those homes that are near the main antenna signal, such as in an urban area, indoor "rabbit ear" antennas still function well. Luckily, outdoor antennas have been tested and actually color coded to provide a reference for consumers. The color codes correspond to if they are recommended for poor signals or strong signals.

    Considerations

    • Many antennas can only pick up UHF channels, or channels 14 through 69. Verify before purchasing if the antenna picks up both VHF and UHF signals, or if two separate antennas need to be obtained.
