The size of the pump needed for your koi pond depends on the size of the pond itself. Your pond must have a per-hour flow rate of about half the number of total gallons it is. For example, a 6,000-gallon pond must have a 3,000-gallons-per-hour flow rate in order to keep the pond clean.

Multiply the length of the pond by the width of the pond by the depth of the pond to get the cubic feet of the pond, and then multiply that number by 7.5.
