Bees can be a pest and a hazard in your garage.

Bees are helpful when they are pollinating your garden. They are not helpful at all in your garage. You can keep them out with a homemade bee repellent. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Repellent

    • Create your own bee repellent for your garage by pouring a cup of boiling water over dried hot peppers and letting them sit overnight. Pour the liquid into a spray bottle, then fill it the rest of the way up with water. Spray the mixture in your garage around the door opening and other problem areas.

    Function

    • Vinegar helps to keep insects away because of its smell and acidity. Hot peppers contain a compound called capsaicin, which is what burns your tongue when you eat them. The capsaicin in the repellent keeps bees away because it burns them when they come in contact with it.

    Considerations

    • The same capsaicin that burns the bees can also burn if it gets in your eyes or on your skin. Wear gloves when applying the bee repellent and do not spray it anywhere in the garage if children or pets could get into it. Keep your garage door open for good ventilation when spraying to avoid respiratory irritation.
