Acer TravelMate Wireless Adapter Problems

The Acer TravelMate was strictly designed for mobile computing.

The Acer TravelMate is designed for mobile computing. It weighs six pounds, has a SVGA display for graphics and a multimedia setup for movies, presentations and enhanced audio. However, the placement of the wireless adapter switch that connects the wireless adapter can cause problems.

  1. Problem

    • The wireless adapter has a switch which can be easily turned off inadvertently if the computer is mishandled. Acer designed the TravelMate with the wireless switch on the front panel. A majority of users complained about the wireless adapter switch located at the front of the laptop.

    Solution

    • With any laptop or notebook computer, the first rule of operation is to handle the device with care. The Travelmate has a thin design and components in the laptop can dislodge easily. Since the switch for the wireless adapter is on the front of the system, extra care should be taken when removing the computer for usage.

    Expert Insight

    • If the wireless adapter switch on the front of the TravelMate causes problems, a user should consider using an external card and shutting the wireless adapter off. It appears easier to use an external card than to use a wireless adapter connected to a switch which can be easily shut off.
