Netgear IP Comcast Protocol

A Netgear Internet protocol (IP) router is the physical address that DSL and cable services recognize to send a signal for Internet connectivity. The router provides an interface for the computer access services through a broadband modem.

  1. Features

    • A Netgear router has several port interfaces with wireless features. The device that establishes connectivity is a cable box with coaxial cable, which connects from the router to a voice/data network through a phone line or wireless network device.

    Function

    • The function of a Netgear router is to act as a station or port that accepts a DSL or LAN cable signal for Internet use. Comcast assigns a unique IP to all accounts. The IP address is initialized by configuring the router for communications through a broadband modem.

    Expert Insight

    • For individual users, Comcast only provides one IP address per account. Regardless of how many ports a router may include, only one computer can access the account. For other computers to share DSL or cable resources, an account must be established for use of multiple IP addresses.
