Rockwell Axles Information

An axle is the foundation for what turns the wheels of your car. An axle attaches to the wheel wells along with a bearing. The combination can last for up to 100,000 miles.

  1. Standard Label

    • The Rockwell company offers many different capacities and combinations of axles. To identify your axle, you must locate the axle identification label on the axle beam. The batch number will be listed in the top right corner, and just below that the part number is listed across the entire label. The bottom of the label will list a description of the part.

    Serial Label

    • Besides the standard label required by the Department of Transportation, all axles rated at over 10,000 pounds must include a serialized identification label. The largest size seven digits listed comprise the serialized identification number.

    Torsion Axles

    • A torsion axle has an independent suspension and often is used on a trailer. The loading of the trailer and the road conditions are the two main factors in determining the lifespan of the axles. To ensure proper performance, the trailer should be loaded evenly and all four tires should be on the ground during the loading process. Also, severely uneven terrain can cause bearing failure.
