There are many methods of cutting glass. Laser cutting is believed to be the most efficient. There are three types of laser that can produce high-quality cuts that leave a very finished edge.

  1. Carbon Dioxide Lasers

    • CO2, or carbon dioxide, lasers produce a light that is amplified to laser heat by carbon dioxide molecules. The beam quality is very high, creating a quality edge. These lasers are most often used in industrial capacities, but can also be used as a surgical tool by professionals.

    Water-Jet Laser

    • The water-jet laser uses water blasted at low pressure as a guideline for a laser beam. This allows for cutting at any angle, as it cuts through a thin film of water. Also, because of this thin film, the material cannot become contaminated, leaving it at high-quality.

    Pulsed Laser

    • Pulsed lasers use a series of small holes to create a continuous line. This pulsing allows for a minimum amount of heating and no damage to the glass beneath it. This allows for the cutting of small holes and low cutting speed.
