Variegated Canna Pretoria
The canna cultivar Pretoria, also colloquially named the Bengal Tiger, produces large, waxy mid-green leaves with yellow striations. In summer and fall's warmth the plant bears golden orange flowers on stems above the ornamental leaves. Does this Spark an idea?

Origins
-
First selected as a more ornate, mutant canna growing in a garden in Bengal, India, in the 1950s, it was first simply referred to as the Bengal Tiger canna. A legitimate cultivar name of "Pretoria" was later assigned.
Plant Hardiness
-
The Pretoria canna grows outdoors year round and survives as a perennial in U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 7b and warmer. It is killed back to the ground by frost but rejuvenates in spring. In cold winter regions the rhizomes are dug up in fall and overwintered in a cool, dry spot indoors and replanted outdoors in spring or early summer.

Size
-
Cannas thrive in moist to wet soils enriched with organic matter and fertilizer. Depending on growing environment, the Pretoria canna matures between 3 and 6 feet tall with multiple stems. Over time, the rhizomes multiply to create a clump 3 to 5 feet wide.
