Linux Tape Backup Solutions
Linux tape backup copies specified files from a hard drive or server onto a series of tapes. This can be done either manually, based on a command, or automatically, based on a schedule. Tapes are then stored in a tape library and eventually reused.

Hardware
-
A wide variety of hardware exists for Linux tape backups. Drives range in capacity from 10-gigabyte to 3-terrabyte cartridges. Which device is needed depends on the amount of data and frequency of backups.
Software
-
One of the advantages of using tape backup with Linux is that much of the software needed for backup and compression is free. In addition, many of the backup software packages are "open source," so the source code can be modified for specific needs.

Considerations
-
Factors to consider when choosing a tape backup system for Linux include whether or not unattended or automated backups are required and the portability of the system. It is also important to consider whether users will be comfortable with a command line interface or if a graphic user interface is required.
