Growth Essentials
-
According to Texas A&M University, light is the most important factor in houseplant growth. The amount of light houseplants receive determines how long a plant remains active and how much it grows. The temperature of your home is another important part of houseplant growth. Foliage plants thrive in homes with temperatures that range from 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the daytime and 60 to 68 F at night. Water is also important for plant growth. Provide adequate amounts of water, but do not overwater, because this promotes fungal diseases.
Environmental Factors
-
Houseplants require an increased humidity level for growth. Grouping plants close together and spraying a fine mist of water on foliage daily are two ways to increase humidity. Cold drafts and gas heaters may decrease houseplant growth. Many plants are sensitive to gas.

Considerations
-
When choosing a houseplant, consider the area in which it will grow. Plant labels include light, water, and nutrition requirements. Choose only healthy, disease-free plants to bring into your home.
