Composite Decking Fire Ratings
The decking industry has many deck-building material options available for consumers. Common wood now has an alternative, called composite decking, but keep in mind that fire ratings still vary for this man-made hybrid decking. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Identification
-
Composite decking mixes wood, or cellulose, fibers with plastic to form a deck panel. This mixture of materials creates a durable product that can stand the test of time from weather elements or insect infestations.
Features
-
All composite decking can vary in composition. Fire ratings span from the lower Class C, or Class 3, classification, which is a very low fire resistance, upward to Class A. This top classification is the best the industry can offer, by having the ability to stop flames from spreading within the decking material.
-
Considerations
-
When purchasing composite decking, verify the fire ratings with the dealer. Each decking manufacturer adds its own distinct additives and percent ratios so that its product differs from the rest.
