The GM 6.0 liter engine is featured on Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks, vans, and SUVs. The big block Chevy (BBC) engine has the power to tow and carry a large amount of cargo weight, making it ideal for utility vehicles. The engine often comes as standard equipment on the special package trims or as an optional upgrade.

Flywheel Flexplate Torque Specs

The flywheel flexplate bolts have 60 foot-pounds of torque.

Other Camshaft Torque Specs

The 0.375-inch bolts on the rod connecting the pistons to the crankshaft have 50 foot-pounds of torque, while the 0.4375-inch bolts have 67 to 73 foot-pounds of torque. The long cylinder head bolts have 75 to 80 foot-pounds of torque and the short cylinder head bolts have 65 to 68 foot-pounds of torque. The intake manifold bolts have 25 to 30 foot-pounds of torque, while the exhaust manifold has 20 foot-pounds of torque. The 0.625-inch spark plug has 15 foot-pounds of torque, while the 0.8125 inch spark plug has 22 foot-pounds of torque.

6.0 Liter Dimensions

The GM 6.0 liter V8 BBC engine has an overhead valve configuration (OHV) with two valves per cylinder, for a total of 16 valves. It uses a sequential electronic fuel injection (SEFI) system and runs on gasoline. The BBC has a bore and stroke of 4.00 inches by 3.62 inches and a compression ratio of 9.6-to-1. It has a displacement of 366 cc or 6.0 liters.

The 2011 Chevrolet Express van has the 6.0-liter engine as an option. The BBC gives the van a peak horsepower of 397 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and a peak torque of 765 pound-feet at 1,600 rpm.
