Can Cream Hardener Be Used for Fiberglass Resin?

Many vehicles have fiberglass bodies, as opposed to the older style of metal. Repairing a fiberglass body, whether a dent or break, can be done with a mixture of fiberglass resin and cream hardener.

Identification

Fiberglass resin is a liquid form of fiberglass that can be applied to fiberglass bodies for repairs. Used along with the resin is cream hardener, a chemical that activates the solidification of the fiberglass resin for a resulting hard finish.

Function

Mixing 2 percent cream hardener to a selected amount of fiberglass resin allows the mixture to be applied without dripping. This is especially helpful if applied while the substrate is in a vertical position, like a car door or side panel.

Significance

The use of the resin and hardener mixture allows the resulting fiberglass body to be sanded, emulating the ease of working with steel. The result is a smooth, repaired fiberglass body that can take a quality paint job without any apparent dents or breaks.
