Kymco Moped Engine Problems

Moped engine problems lead to recall.

In July 2004, KYMCO Motorsports USA informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and consumers that KYMCO was recalling certain Super-9 and Vitality moped scooter models due to a manufacturing defect that could lead to engine problems.

Defect and Risk

The engine mount could break due to a casting flaw on the bottom of the left-hand side of the engine case base. If the defect causes the engine mount to break, rear suspension problems could result and cause a crash.

Affected Models

KYMCO mopeds and scooters affected by the recall are 2004-2005 model year Super-9 and Vitality models containing engine numbers SF10K and SH10B and embossed casting number KEB7-1.

Repair

KYMCO notified registered owners of the recall in 2004 with instruction to contact the manufacturer to set up an appointment for free repairs. Moped owners experiencing engine problems may contact the manufacturer or the NHTSA to determine whether their scooters' repairs may be covered under this recall.
