Toshiba HDD Installation

The hard disk drive (HDD) stores permanent digital data to a platter or platters contained within a solid enclosure. If the hard drive fails, you will no longer be able to boot to the operating system or save files to the computer. Installing an HDD into a Toshiba laptop requires only a few simple steps.

  1. Features

    • Most Toshiba satellites store the hard drive beneath a removable panel on the bottom of the system. The connectors on the HDD slide into a circuit board that allows the drive to communicate with the rest of the hardware.

    Types

    • Toshiba satellites require hard drives with a 2.5-inch form factor. Two-and-a-half-inch hard drives are designed for laptop computers. Three-and-a-half-inch hard drives, designed for desktops, won't fit into a Toshiba.

    Installation

    • To remove the HDD from the Toshiba laptop, turn off the computer and disconnect the AC adapter. Extract the battery from its compartment and remove the screws securing the cover panel to the HDD. Slide the SATA or PATA interface on the side of the hard drive into the circuit board. Reassemble the laptop.
