How to Shop for Class C Motor Homes

How to Shop for Class C Motor Homes thumbnail
Motorhomes can be used as a camping alternative.

For a family of four that vacations a couple of times a year, traveling in a Class C Motor Home, those averaging between 21 and 40 feet long, can be cheaper than paying for flights, hotels and eating out at restaurants. You can sleep in the motor home, drive to your destination, avoid rental car fees and cook in your own kitchenette.

  1. Amenities

    • Make a list of amenities that you want in your Class C motor home. Separate the list in terms of "important" and "somewhat important." Amenities may include kitchenettes, dinettes, bathroom, sleepers, heating and air conditioner. Compare prices through online classifieds, dealerships and magazines, such as RV Trader.

    Test Drive

    • Test drive the Class C's that you like for maneuverability. The chassis capacity and wheelbase will determine how the vehicle handles. A wider wheelbase often means more stability during turns and bumps.

    Engine Power

    • Engine power becomes more important when you are planning to use your motor home every day, such as for cross country treks or living on the road, or whether you will only use the vehicle a few times a year. Where you will drive also will determine your engine power needs. You need more power to take a loaded motor home up a mountainside than on a country back road.
