Utorrent Disconnect Problems
The uTorrent program is a BitTorrent client that enables users to share files with other users. BitTorrent is increasingly popular as a software distribution protocol due to its efficient bandwidth usage.

BitTorrent Protocol
-
The BitTorrent protocol enables several users to download and upload a file simultaneously. Given that transfers take place amongst all users regardless of how much of the original file they have downloaded, the BitTorrent protocol eases bandwidth requirements on the initial uploader.
Cause
-
While bandwidth efficient, the BitTorrent protocol causes an increase in traffic across a network. If not properly configured, clients like uTorrent may result in excess traffic bringing down the entire network. In a home setting, this is usually experienced as a router or modem crashing and disconnecting uTorrent.
-
Solution
-
Proper configuration of uTorrent will solve this problem. To determine your network's traffic threshold, select "Preferences" within uTorrent and then "Run Tests" under "Setup Options." The optimal network settings will be filled in automatically.
