How to Charge the A/C on a 1998 Honda Accord
by Zyon SilketUpdated November 07, 2017If you have noticed that the air conditioner (A/C) in your 1998 Honda Accord blows warm air, it is likely that the air compressor leaked its entire R134a refrigerant. Over time, most automotive air conditioners require a recharge. Fortunately, gone are the days when your vehicle had to be taken to a repair facility to have the A/C recharged; presently, you can purchase a recharge kit from your local automotive part supplier and recharge the A/C yourself.
Place the recharge hose onto the bottle of the R134a refrigerant. Keep the valve closed until you are ready to charge the air conditioner.
Locate the low-side quick-connect valve on the hose that connects the accumulator and the compressor -- it is located on the passenger side of the Accord, and it has a black cap. The quick-connect coupler on the recharge hose only connects to that valve.
Remove the cap from the quick-connect valve on the hose and snap the recharge hose onto the valve.
Turn on the air conditioner on "Full" on the Honda Accord and open the valve on the recharge hose.
Turn the valve off when the pressure gauge reaches 35psi. If you surpass 50psi, the system will be over-charged.
Turn off the air conditioner, close the valve on the recharge hose and disconnect the hose from the low-side valve. Place the cap back onto the valve.
