Log Loader Information

A log loader is a piece of heavy equipment used to load cut or fallen trees onto trucks so they may be transported to another site. Log loaders have a number of necessary components.

  1. Cab

    • Log loaders include a caged cab where the operator sits and operates the controls. The logs being loaded will likely be extremely heavy. The cab is thus usually completely enclosed to the hazardous nature of the work. This ensures the safety of the operator.

    Arm

    • Attached to the cab is a long arm with a gripping or grappling apparatus attached to the end. This arm is hydraulically connected to the engine and works much like a human arm and hand.

    Tracks

    • Usually, log loaders operate while attached to tracks. This is done because log loaders are generally used on rough, unpredictable terrain. This is done to prevent tipping.
