Flash 8 Christmas Tree Tutorial
Adobe Flash is a creative design program that lets you make interactive websites, screen savers, games and animation. Flash 8 is an earlier version of the Flash program released in 2005. There are several tutorials on how to make a Christmas tree using Flash 8 to use as a screen saver or to put on your website.
-
Function
-
Adobe Flash is designed to make animation that moves or even "blinks" -- like the lights on a Christmas tree. In order to do this, Flash uses a "timeline" in which you can place different objects at different points and change them at other points giving the sense of movement or altering. For example, to make lights blink, you could cycle a bulb that is blue (on) with a bulb that is black (off) or with another color.
Features
-
Flash 8 uses layers in the timeline so you can place a picture of a Christmas tree in one layer and then add lights in another layer. The tree can stay throughout the timeline while the lights alternate on another timeline, giving the sense that they are blinking. By making it repeat in a loop, it will continue to blink.

Types
-
Different tutorials offer different types of Christmas trees, lights and different levels of advancement. Tutorials for different versions of Flash are still applicable to Flash 8 for a simple project like a Christmas tree because the functions are the same. To choose a tutorial, look at the results and find one that you like. You can then look at the tutorial and see if it is easy enough to follow.
Considerations
-
You will need to make a Christmas tree image using a design program such as Adobe Photoshop first to load into the Flash creator, a tutorial for which a link is available in References. If you do not have any experience making Flash animations, a Christmas tree project may be a good way to learn. However, you may want to start with a general tutorial on basic functions to start learning how Flash 8 works, also available by link below.
