How to Compare Garmin Sat-NAV
Garmin satellite navigation units utilize global positioning satellites to provide you with accurate turn-by-turn driving directions. While most Garmin units provide similar directional functions, some of the other features vary greatly between models.
-
Screen Size
-
The size of the LCD screen varies between the models. As of January 2011, the Garmin Nuvi units boast a 5-inch LCD touchscreen while the Ultra-thin series has a smaller 4.3" display.
Points Of Interest
-
The Points of Interest (or POIs) are preset addresses that your GPS unit stores so you can quickly find restaurants, gas stations, stores and other locations in your area. The higher end navigation units will store hundreds more POIs per city than the lower end units, with data in more numerous and specific categories.
-
Additional Features
-
The major differences between the different receivers is the range of additional features beyond the navigation. Some units, including the Nuvi 3790LMT, come with Bluetooth hands-free wireless capabilities, pedestrian navigation options and the ability to play multimedia files on the LCD screen.
