Information on a DSL Connection Link
A digital subscriber line (DSL) is a connection between an Internet user and their Internet service provider (ISP). DSL Internet services are usually provided by telephone providers, because they use existing phone lines.

Equipment
-
A DSL connection requires the use of specialized hardware at each end of the connection to maintain continuous Internet access. A subscriber to the service requires a modem to receive and transmit information.
Frequency
-
DSL connections allow simultaneous use of the Internet and a telephone using the same copper telephone line. The movement of data is transmitted at a higher frequency than voice data is passed along the connection allowing both to be used simultaneously.
-
Asymmetric
-
The most common form of DSL connection used in residential Internet usage is asymmetric DSL. This allows a larger amount of information to be sent to a user, including video and audio files with less transmitted from the user to the ISP, usually keystrokes and mouse movements.
