1920s Fashions for Boys

The "Roaring 20s" brought in much more relaxed fashions than the previous decade. Boys' clothes were more lightweight and easier to play in. While women's hemlines became shorter with the introduction of the flapper dress, men's and boys' fashions became sportier and more versatile as well.

Shirts

Boys wore button-down shirts that tucked into their trousers. Both short and long sleeves were appropriate and sometimes paired with pullover sweaters and vests. Flannel shirts became increasingly popular. Coats were double-breasted and made of wool.

Pants

Pants became shorter with the introduction of knickers. The knickers--made of wool, velvet or cotton--had a button and zip closure and were held up with suspenders. Boys' long pants were wide leg and made of wool or cotton.

Accessories

Boys usually wore canvas shoes in the 1920s. Two-toned wing tip shoes also became fashionable. Boys sometimes wore leather lace-up boots with knee-high wool stockings with their knickers. Boys preferred baseball caps and fedora style hats.
