Steel Checker Plate Vs. Aluminum

Steel Checker Plate Vs. Aluminum thumbnail
Here is one example of how checker plating can look.

Checker plate, also known as diamond plate, is used in many ways. Made from stainless steel, aluminum or steel, these plates can be put to work as anything from flooring to door guards and can even be made into toolboxes. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Steel

    • Steel checker plates are pressed with rhombus-like shapes to create the diamond-like pattern for which the plate is also named. They are made out of #1 to #3 carbon steel, and measured by their thickness. These plates can be from 2.5 millimeters (mm) to 8 mm thick.

    Aluminum

    • Aluminum checker plate is typically used for industrial flooring and other places that need to be slip-resistant, as the diamond pattern makes the surface rough and easier to maintain traction. It is considered easier to work with by professionals due to its thinner nature and aesthetics.

    Uses

    • Many uses have been found for checker plate of any type. Most commonly used as flooring, it can also be made into stairs, placed in truck beds to prevent damage, made into toolboxes for the garage or even a kickstand for a motorcycle. "If a design has been conceived, someone has built it in diamond plate," claims Quick Ship Metal's Frank Ross.
