Can You Use Current Avaya Telephones With VoIP?
VoIP phone services employ your Internet connection rather than your phone line to send voice calls. Switching to VoIP does not require changing your telephone.
-
Function
-
Use an ATA -- analogue terminal adapter -- to connect your current Avaya telephones to your Internet connection. The adapter transforms the signals from your phone to a format that is compatible with the VoIP protocol.
Significance
-
You will not need to update your telephone hardware when adding or switching to a VoIP phone service. Your Internet service does not need to be updated either.
-
Process
-
Plug the phone line from your current Avaya phone and plug it into the phone jack on the side of the ATA box. Insert an Ethernet cord into the networking port on the ATA and connect the other end into one of the open ports on your router.
