There are many different types of laundry dryers, usually categorized by how they are powered, by either gas or electricity. But dryers also can be compared by the material of the drum, whether it is plastic or steel.
Plastic Dryer Drums
The most widely used dryer is one outfitted with a plastic drum. Plastic drums are cheaper than steel drums and offer a lightweight alternative. They also are durable, giving the owner many years of dependable use.
Steel Drum Dryers
Steel drums are made from stainless steel. This material is heavier than plastic and typically is used in more expensive dryers. Stainless steel offers an easy to clean surface, as well as resistance to stains and rust.
Though stainless steel and plastic have differing benefits, the actual drying quality remains the same regardless of the material used. Material choice may be a determining factor if a consumer is concerned about overall weight of the product for ease of movement or placement in a home.
