The Basics

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website Poolsafely.gov, all aboveground pools should be enclosed with a fence that is at least 4 feet high. State and local laws may enact their own height requirements for aboveground swimming pool fences. Always research local ordinances before constructing an aboveground pool fence.
Purpose
-
Fences that are placed around aboveground swimming pools prevent younger children from accessing the water. According to the CPSC, more than 2,000 children per year under the age of 5 are treated in emergency rooms due to pool-related injuries. Another 300 children per year drown in pools, making fences that much more important.
