How to Rebuild New Holland Hydraulic Cylinder

New Holland manufactures heavy duty industrial and agricultural equipment. Loaders, bulldozers, backhoes, tractors and other vehicles use hydraulic cylinders to move buckets, lift scoops and perform other functions. The hydraulic cylinders that create those movements share the same basic construction as any other hydraulic cylinders.

  • You will need a cylinder seal kit for the particular cylinder you will rebuild. It contains all the cylinder's internal seals. You may also need special tools to disassemble the cylinder, such as snap ring pliers or a gland wrench. This is in addition to basic tools, such as wrenches and a bench vise.

  • Take the cylinder to a clean workplace and disassemble it completely. You can access most cylinders by removing a cap or retainer at the rod end and pulling the piston rod assembly out. Remove all the parts from the piston rod and replace the seals, then reassemble the entire cylinder.

  • Before you rebuild the cylinder, you need to remove it from its machine and get it to a work area. You may need special equipment just to remove the cylinder, and it may be hard to find a suitable work area on a job site.
