Automotive Scan Software Training

Automotive scanning software is used by mechanics to assist with maintenance and repair of vehicles. Such software is used to test aspects of everything from electrical to mechanical automobile components. Training can take place in a variety of ways.

  1. Education

    • Almost all automotive mechanics must understand how to use scanning software in order to make a proper diagnosis. Mechanics generally need no more than a high school diploma or the equivalent, but they should have a basic understanding of certain related subjects, included mathematics, computers and electronics.

    Certification

    • Certification programs offer mechanics additional training, and some may even focus on the scanning software used for the job. These programs vary but generally include instruction, testing and even hands-on training and can last up to 2 years.

    On the Job

    • Many automotive mechanics can receive all the needed training related to scanning software after taking their first job. In this instance, they learn under the guidance of another mechanic or supervisor.
