Keyboard drivers allow the device to interface with the system.

A corrupted keyboard driver can seriously affect a computer system's core functionality, blocking access to many basic typing features. Corruption may be the result of accidental tampering or malicious software.

  1. Tampering

    • Tampering with advanced settings in the system's registry can cause driver corruption. The Windows registry stores critical information about driver operation, and changing string values or links can permanently disable a driver. Do not alter any registry settings unless you are certain of their function.

    Infection

    • Malicious software often corrupts device drivers controlling computer interface in an effort to hamper removal of the software. Run a scan from an up-to-date antivirus program to find and eliminate malicious software on the system.

    Solution

    • Most often, corrupted drivers require reinstallation before correctly operating again. If you use the keyboard drivers built in to Windows, repair them from the Device Manager console. If you use third-party drivers, download them from the manufacturer's website.
