Much like traditional electrical lights, solar lanterns and garden lights come in various styles. They can be small, short fixtures that illuminate paths and sidewalks, Tiki torch styles that add drama to the surroundings or strategically placed lights that focus on waterfalls or other special features.

For totally wireless solar lighting, the solar cells have to be in the body of the fixtures. If you select lights that have solar panels that are separate from the light fixtures, some wiring will be necessary. This option allows sun to be gathered from the heaviest sunlit areas and transmitted to lanterns and fixtures in shadier spots.

Before buying solar lights, check for the availability of replacement parts and if there is a toll-free number or website that provides technical support. Without these options, adequate maintenance may be hindered or impossible.
