I Cannot Get Surround Sound to Come Through the Television
Getting surround sound through your television may require some troubleshooting steps. If you're not hearing the sound correctly, you may need to check your connections and settings. Most of these issues can usually be fixed without the need for costly repairs. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Connections
-
Disconnect, clean and securely reconnect the wires at each stage of the signal's path. Start with the device outputting the signal. Do the same with the "In" port of the television or receiver, and then the wires to the amplifier or speakers. Match the color-coded input plugs to the output sockets on the back of the television or receiver.
Settings
-
Use the player or game console's remote control to bring up the "Menu" section. Bring up the "Sound" or "Audio" section, then check that "Output" is set to "Surround," "Dolby 5.1," "Pro Logic" or another surround-sound standard. Repeat this procedure with all components of the surround setup to verify they're all operating on the same surround-sound standard.

Media
-
Check that your movie or game is surround-sound compatible. Check the back of the box for the sound setups supported by your disc, or open the "Sound Settings" menu of the disc itself. Sound should still come through for non-compatible games, but it won't be as full as sound designed for the system.
