LED vs. LCD Laptops
When purchasing a laptop, consumers will need to choose between LED screens and the more traditional LCD screen. There are advantages and disadvantages to both prospects.
-
Performance
-
The LED variety of laptop monitors can display a higher variety of color, which results in greater picture detail. Additionally, they reduce "motion artifacts" -- stuttering video playback -- because of their fast processing components. The LCD monitor offers similarly effective video playback, but LED is considered superior in performance due to its use of light-emitting diodes. There is more gradation in intensity and a better dynamic contrast ratio in LED monitors.
Power
-
When running on AC power, consumption of battery life can become a factor in deciding between LED and LCD monitors. Generally speaking, LED screens consume less power because the diodes of LED monitors require considerably less energy to run than the cathodes of LCD ones. LED can require up to 40 percent less power than LCD.

Cost
-
Though prices vary greatly, choosing between LCD and LED in your laptop purchase, price can be an additional factor. Depending on the brand of laptop, manufacturing costs of LED laptops are higher.
