How Do I Pipe My Water Softener?
Before you start to pipe, or plumb, a water softener, choose an appropriate position for it. This should be close to the point where the main water enters your property, but also close to a waste pipe or drain -- for periodic flushing of the softener -- and a power outlet. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Inlet
-
Plumbing a water softener involves splicing the cold water supply pipe. The pipe is cut and fitted with a T-piece, so one branch feeds the softener and the other feeds exterior hose connections or anything else that does not require softened water.
Outlet
-
On the opposite, outlet, side of a water softener, there should similarly be two branches. One of these should be a cold line, which feeds faucets and fixtures with cold water, while the other feeds the water heater.
-
Bypass Valve
-
Most water softeners are equipped with a bypass valve. This can be to connected to the regular water pipe, typically via two copper caps, and allows you to temporarily disconnect the softener without disturbing the water supply.
