What Kind of Connection Is My Alltel Internet Phone On?
Nowadays, most cell phones have an Internet connection. For Alltel, several different kinds of Internet connections are available: EV-DO or 3G, 1x, Wi-Fi and QNC. Alltel's Internet connection runs on the CDMA network.

Identifying Connection
-
Identifying what type of connection your phone is generally quite simple. Depending on the phone, the type of Internet connection is usually displayed in the top right or top left hand corner of your phone's screen. You should either see EV-DO (3G), 1x, Wi-Fi or the QNC symbol.
ED-VO (3G)
-
EV-DO, or Evolution-Data Optimized, is a telecommunications standard that operates on the CDMA network. Its speed runs up to 2.45 mbps with Rev 0 and up to 3.1 mbps with Rev A. The EV-DO standard has been modified multiple times to increase data speed. Average speeds for Alltel phones run between 400k to 700k. EV-DO is actually 3G for the CDMA network. 3G, or third generation, is a mobile telecommunications standard optimized to work on both CDMA and GSM networks.

1X
-
1X is a CDMA2000 technology standard that is available when ED-VO is not. The average speeds on Alltel's network run from 40-70k and up to a maximum of 153kpbs.
Wi-Fi
-
Wi-Fi is just a wireless broadband connection that covers a small range of several hundred feet. It is not a mobile standard on Alltel or any other cell phone network. If it is available on your phone, you may use this connection instead of Alltel's network.
QNC
-
QNC, or Quick Net Connect, is Alltel's digital Internet connection, which is used when there is no other wireless network available. QNC is one of Alltel's oldest technologies, and works using "voice packets" or minutes from a person's cell phone plan. This technology only works with QNC-enabled devices.
