How to Compare Juki 98 Sewing Machines thumbnail
The Juki 98 line has machines made for quilting.

Juki -- a well-known brand of sewing machine for commercial as well as home use -- began selling its machines in Japan in 1945. The TL98 line contains straight-stitch machines with added free-quilting features.

  1. Price

    • The Juki TL98 line has two models: the TL98Q and the TL98QE. The 98Q model, developed to replace the popular 98E, offers a full-featured quilting machine as well as a straight stitch machine. The 98QE delivers the same power and basic structure as the 98Q, but as a value model, it has fewer functions and accessories. In 2011, the 98QE sold for $200 less than the 98Q.

    Features

    • The 98Q has extra features not found on the 98QE, such as an automatic thread cutter and needle threader -- both time-saving functions for someone who sews frequently. Additionally, the 98Q has a knee-operated presser foot lift and an auxiliary table to extend the work surface.

    Accessories

    • The 98Q also comes with extra accessories not found on the 98QE, including three extra presser feet: a 1/5-inch quilting foot, a zipper foot and a hemming foot.
