What Is a Follow-Up Torque Wrench?

Follow-up torque wrenches are more accurate versions of typical torque wrenches. They are also known as dial measuring torque wrenches because of the precision dial in their casing.

For Fine-Tuning

Use a follow-up, or dial measuring, torque wrench after you have tightened down a nut. Follow-up torque wrenches are designed for verifying and fine tuning the tightness of a nut to ensure it matches the manufacturer's specifications for the vehicle.

Quality-Control Instrument

Use a follow-up torque wrench for quality control to monitor torque in nuts you may have not adjusted. In some cases, mechanics use a follow-up torque wrench to appropriately loosen a nut they have ratcheted too far.

Precision Measuring Tool

Dial measuring torque wrenches, the apex of precision and accuracy in the torque wrench family, verify exact torque rather than signaling approximate torque, which is what a normal torque wrench does. Some even come equipped with memory settings, buzzers and electric lighting.
