How to Compare California King to King Beds

Standard king-sized beds measure 76 inches wide by 80 inches long. California king-sized beds measure 72 inches wide by 84 inches long. Not all manufacturers adhere to these measurements strictly and may vary the measurements of their beds by several inches.

California king-sized beds are 4 inches longer than standard king-sized beds. Standard king-sized beds are 4 inches wider than California king-sized beds.

If the width of the bed were divided evenly between two people, each person would have 38 inches of space on an Eastern king-sized bed. Each person would have 36 inches of space on a California king-sized bed.
