Ship Charting Software
Ship charting software is an electronic navigation tool that charts and tracks the movement of vessels, ships and small boats. The software provides electronic charts of navigation systems and current movement of watercraft and water vehicles.

Electronic Charts
-
Ship charting software produces electronic charts of various locations. The charts are available n CD-ROM. They typically track vessel movement from a primary global positioning system (GPS) signal.
AIS
-
Automatic identification systems (AIS) are charts displaying shipboard broadcasting software that provides information on a ship's position from radio range. The AIS is a transponder that processes more than 4,000 reports by employing time division technology such as self-organizing time division multiple access (SOTDMA).

Maneuvering Data
-
The AIS displays additional navigation information such as the ship's closest point of approach (CPA) and/or time to closest point of approach (TCPA). The electronic chart displays ships as symbols. By clicking on a symbol, you can learn the ship's features related to size, GPS position, name, speed, classification and registration number.
GPS Applications
-
Ship charting software is available as a GPS application. Ships and large vessels use this application to manage and supervise various vehicle fleets. The application provides a tactical display interface and route planning tools. The application comes with a unique search and rescue tracking capability.
